Elevenses [Ugly Duck, 2024]
My conceptual sound-art installation ‘All Recordings, 2022-2023’ was shown in ‘Elevenses’ a group exhibition curated by Five Fold in London’s Ugly Duck in June 2024.
‘All Recordings, 2022 - 2023’ is a participatory archive of sound recordings with an installation of a chair, phone and headphones, light, fabric curtain and magazine rack with risograph machine printed booklets and A4 book.
This project is the result of my ritual of recording hours of environmental sound on two trips I took to America and back to England over 2022 - 2023. Listening back, visitors to this installation can be transported to the toilets in an American baseball stadium or in Yosemite National Park at night with my sisters or in the cafe of Leeds Art Gallery or playing the piano at home in Sheffield. In some cases, the situations recorded are more curated: interviews with my grandmother before she died, relaying my weird dreams, practicing lines for a play - but in others, they are simply reminders of a time and place which are dear and specific to me.
All Recordings is exhaustive and over 15 hours long. It is impossible to listen to the playlist in its entirety as it’s completely unfiltered or edited.

Here are a selection of unedited recordings from ‘All Recordings, 2022 - 2023’, they are not the full extent of the sound archive which can only be listened to within the installation.
