Sisters [2023]
‘Sisters, 2023’ is a poetic documentary which reflects on the sisterly love found between artists Sarah Catterall, Gala Hills and Sophia Missaghian - Schirazi who lived together at 3 Alma Place, Oxford, UK in 2022 - 2023.
Sharing this gentle installation during a ‘group crit’ at The Ruskin School of Art caused some controversy. Some found the domesticity of the space off-putting and struggled with undefined line between ‘the host’ and ‘the hosted’. Others welcomed the chance to visit, talk, listen, eat and drink wine with us. The choice to accept the invitation inside was always in the hands of the visitor. To us, this installation was intended to be a safer space - free from the expectations of the ‘Oxford art-world’.
When editing this documentary of the installation, I sampled a voice-note of a song I wrote in 2021. The rawness of this song in contrast with the joy and playfulness of the installation suggested a hope to me which I felt could be found through time. The practice of love, especially between sisters, is a healing practice.
This documentary is also dedicated to my two sisters Hannah and Moriah - who will forever be the original muses for my art practice.
